FOR THE LOVE OF COWS AND THE SAKE OF CIVILISATION...

"In the age of Kali, the poor helpless animals, especially the cows, which are meant to receive all sorts of protection from the administrative heads, are killed without restriction. Thus the administrative heads under whose noses such things happen are representatives of God in name only. Such powerful administrators are rulers of the poor citizens by dress or office, but factually they are worthless, lower-class men without the cultural assets of the twice-born. No one can expect justice or equality of treatment from once-born (spiritually uncultured) lower-class men. Therefore in the age of Kali everyone is unhappy due to the maladministration of the state. The modern human society is not twice-born by spiritual culture. Therefore the people's government, by the people who are not twice-born, must be a government of Kali in which everyone is unhappy."

Of course when we advance in Krishna consciousness we must naturally feel very sympathetic to the plight of the cows, Krishna's dear associates. So Srila Prabhupada directs us to protect cows and at least partially because of ISKCON's preaching worldwide people in India and elsewhere are becoming more conscious of this, hence such a Protest Yatra. Our hearts should become very soft and sympathetic to the predicament of our mother the cow after chanting Hare Krishna.

Encourage everyone to online sign as they want a million signatures and only have a few so far. Please encourage devotees to get their friends to sign too. Please devise ways to get ISKCON members and friends to sign up. I think it is a good campaign to support and ISKCON devotees can easily ally themselves with this effort in this way. Maybe there is some less engaged disciple of mine who has time to take up this project to get lots of online signatures?

Srimad-Bhagavatam 1.14.34 Purport
The Lord is the protector of cows and the brahminical culture. A society devoid of cow protection and brahminical culture is not under the direct protection of the Lord, just as the prisoners in the jails are not under the protection of the king but under the protection of a severe agent of the king. Without cow protection and cultivation of the brahminical qualities in human society, at least for a section of the members of society, no human civilization can prosper at any length.

Srimad-Bhagavatam 1.14.34 Purport
The special protection, brahmanas and cow. You know, we offer Krsna obeisances, namo brahmanya-devaya go-brahmana-hitaya ca: "Krsna, You are the leader of brahminical civilization." The purest civilization. Namo brahmanya-devaya go-brahmana-hitaya ca. "You are the well-wisher of cows and the brahmanas." Why special stress is given to the words go and brahmana, cows and brahmanas? Then he said, jagad-dhitaya. "After being, first being well-wisher to the cows and brahmanas, then You are well-wisher of this general world." Jagad-dhitaya krsnaya govindaya namo namah. This is the prayer, namo brahmanya-devaya.

So why this specific stress has been given to the cows and brahmanas? Just see Krsna's picture, how He's loving the cow. You see? He is instructing by His practical life how He is compassionate with the cows. He played as a cowherd boy. Why? Because if in human society these two things are neglected, cows and the brahmana, that is animal society. Animal society. That is not human society. That is the idea.
